Chasing Coastal Thrills: Riding the San Diego Coastline.
Venturing into new routes to ignite the adventurous spirit!
The Long Wait
It’s been a minute right? well, life has been busier than ever but as I write this post and look at the clock, it says it’s 1:57 a.m. on a Friday morning, and unable to sleep. I was away for a summer vacation in the “old world” and unfortunately, I had none of my bikes with me 😢 , but to be honest it was a time to relax, enjoy, and see life from a different point of view. I did get to ride a few times but nothing like I am used to back at home, so I had a little bit of time to focus on other personal endeavors and plan those accordingly.
Now, I have to be honest, I have been back home for about three weeks now but life has found a way to keep me busy and even though I have had the opportunity to ride with friends in beautiful San Diego, I still haven’t had a chance to get back in here and post something about a new ride, tip or biking related; but I am hoping that I can find the time to keep this blog up and running. I might just be coming in here and writing Shorts about places I visit, rides, events, food joints after rides, etc., you get the gist.
A Few Rides In
Last week a friend of mine and I got to do a pre-ride for Bike The Bay; this is an awesome event that happens once a year here in beautiful San Diego, in which registered riders get to go over the Coronado Bridge on their bicycles and across to Coronado Island, and then bike around the San Diego bay. This ride is a treat because you get amazing views from the top of the Coronado Bridge and it’s kind of one of those things you actually never get to do. Just to clarify, we didn’t get to ride over the bridge last week as the bridge is open to registered riders on the day of the event, this year being on August 27, 2023. Bike The Bay is a non-competitive ride that is fun for all ages and for riders of all abilities.
Most recently this past Tuesday, a few friends and I rode the La Jolla and Pacific Beach area. I really love this route as it’s very scenic and you get to enjoy the fresh breeze from the ocean as you pedal your way hugging the coastline. The area of Pacific Beach is always on the vibrant side of things, always lots to see, lots to listen to, and lots to smell? well, I suppose it’s a beach town but I do enjoy going through there and seeing all the craziness that happens around this area, I do call it a “crazy town” because you are almost certain to see something crazy you’ve never seen before. But anyway, this was a beautiful scenic ride with an amazing sunset 🌅 as we biked along the coast when the sun ☀️ was about to set. I will leave the Strava route we did here, and below is a small video I took while riding.
Yesterday afternoon we did another awesome ride but this time going a little up north going up through Solana Beach and making it to Encinitas, before heading back down south. Beautiful ride, with good bike paths, and decent roads for road riding. All in all, it’s been a good busy week but with time and able to put in some miles on the bike. As previously mentioned, I will try to keep this momentum going even if I can post about current rides, and if we ever stop at a good food place I’ll make sure to give a shoutout and post some info about it. For now, I only have one recommendation for the time being and it’s along the Bayshore Bike Path (aka Silver Strand Bikeway), which would be along the route for Bike The Bay. I have personally stopped here many times as it’s a good spot to take a break, use the restroom, or get a coffee, tea, pastry, or beer. Their name is Trident Coffee and I would very much recommend them, great service, a good spot for a break, and good menu items. You can also find them on Instagram as tridentcoffee.
New Social
Finally, I want to let you know that I recently opened up a Pinterest account where I plan to post as well; any “follows” would be greatly appreciated. Thank you and enjoy your weekend.
Pedal On,
Marco.
