Covid-19 certainly changed many people’s lives in 2020, remember that March when our country suddenly shut down one day and everyone was wondering what in the world was happening? I’m sure we all have a story to tell and how we each dealt with it amid the unknown, and the fear that this virus brought with it. Well, this is my story about how cycling helped keep me sane and engaged during the first months of world despair, and which still holds to the present day.
I am a covid cyclist, that is, I took up cycling to continue a workout routine during the first few months of covid. Being a cyclist allowed me to continue exercising, apart from others, and still able to be outdoors. Like many others, I found some type of refuge and mental sanity during difficult times through cycling.
Whether I am road biking or hitting my local trails on a mountain bike, I can disconnect from the digital world and enter the one that functions as a release valve, helping me feel more at ease, relaxed, and in control of my health.
I am very lucky to live in Southern California, with its perfect weather it has so much to offer in terms of cycling, whether it is on paved roads, an amazing trail off the beaten path, or simply through the neighborhood; it is a popular sport that many enjoy.
Now, I want to share my knowledge and experience about this sport and its many subcultures (road, mtb, gravel, etc.) while at the same time continuing to learn and grow along with my readers. I want to share insights about routes and destinations and help other cyclists improve their own riding experience. Together we can join a larger community that shares the same passion and connect with other cyclists. I would love to also raise awareness about issues like bike safety, infrastructure, and accessibility, and advocate for changes that can improve the cycling experience for everyone.
I was lucky to find the right outlet during the early years of covid because it took me where I am now. I hope that many more people see the benefits of being in this sport so that we can continue to grow this amazing community.
Nice to meet you! My name is Marco, gear up, and let’s ride!
